Review: The Body Shop's Lip & Cheek Stain in Dutch Tulip 012

Hello!

So, recently I had been on a hunt for a lip stain since I stalk too many Korean beauty pages but since lip stains aren't very popular in the UK, I had to scavenge high and low for one that could be up to par with the infamous Korean ones.

I had paid a visit to my local Body Shop and I only had the intention of buying the Tea Tree Anti-Imperfection Daily Solution but as I wondered around the make-up isle, I spotted something that was on discount. Originally it was £8 but it was reduced to half price. I was curious so I took a closer look at it and it was actually a lip and cheek stain that I had been looking for! I decided to buy it to try it since it was on such a good deal that I couldn't pass up on. I'm extremely good at saving money since I use websites like Groupon and Voucher and The Body Shop usually has a 40% off if you present a free code that you con obtain on Voucher. To be honest, I would never shop at The Body Shop if I didn't have such a good discount since I consider their products too luxurious and expensive for a stingy and cheap girl like me. With skillful talent, I managed to save a whopping £6.40!!

But enough about talking about me, let's get more into the product.

So for the original price of £8, the product contains of 7.2ml's of liquid stain. On the website, it says that it is a "dual-purpose liquid stain gives lips and cheeks a natural pop of buildable colour." It also claims to be dermatological tested and will give a natural finish.

Looking at the applicator, the wand is clear with a pointed tip that allows you to apply the stain to the lips neatly.

On the packaging, the colour looks to be a very bright red but upon application, it's more of a nude-ish pink-ish colour which I love since that means that it's more natural for everyday wear. Also I left the tint on my hand for around 10 seconds and after I immediately wiped it off and, true to it's word, it stains the skin. Although It's not particularly strong, it can be easily be removed with a little oil based remover.

So excuse my messy hair but this is the before and after of the lip tint. In the first picture, my natural lip colour is very pale so I always look half-dead without lipstick, there is nothing on my lips. Then in the second picture, I had attempted the gradient effects.

I think that it looks incredibly good since it looks very natural and not overly obvious that I have something on my lips. The product feels very lightweight and does not feel sticky or anything like that at all. Though the product has a little bitter-sweet taste to it when I lick my lips.

Then, this is what the lip tint looks like when it's fully applied to the lips.

It does not make my lips feel dry but it's not hydrating neither. It's actually a little bit sticky when the product is layered since if it's only just one coat, then it is quite sheen. The product is buildable to the colour and intensity that you want it to be which I quite enjoy since heavily pigmented lip tints can be hard to control and could easily lead to you messing up your make-up.

So overall, the pros:

  • Very lightweight
  • Non-drying
  • Buildable colour
  • Multipurpose
  • Transfer-proof
  • Lasts a long time
The cons:
  • A little sticky when there is multiply layers of the product
  • Will appear slightly patchy if you do not apply it evenly
  • May come off if you eat oily foods

Overall, I really like this product and I think I will consider using it as an alternative to my lipsticks since it's more convenient since I don't have to constantly reapply it. The packaging also makes it very easy to carry around since it's quite small. The end application looks very natural if you apply lightly but can also build it up to a more dramatic look.

My rating:

I would definitely buy it again if it was on discount but I'm not sure if I would buy it from the original price since the product is quite small. However, depending on how much I actually use it and how long it lasts, it may be a good investment to buy it again.
